Install Solaris 10 Vmware
Source Solaris 10 ISO image to be read on boot up, this can be done by clicking: Edit Virtual Machine - select “CDROM” - Click radio button “use ISO image” - give the location of the Solaris 10 downloaded ISO image. Then click “OK” From the above we have configured the VM to install Solaris 10. Lets start installing Solaris 10. Installed Sun Solaris 10 (5/09) on vmware 6.0 but system is not connecting to internet. When I check 'ipconfig /all' I do not get any DNS Suffix name - neither for vmnet1 and vmnet8 nor for local ethernet IP.
Hi Folks,
I was trying to install Solaris 9 & 10 on a VMWare GSX Server 3.1.0(Build 9089) since last 3 days, but failed everytime with common errors. Before i mention the error details, i would like to inform the environment details as below:
1. Host machine which has VMWare GSX Server installed is running on Windows Xp Professional with SP2.2. 2GB RAM with sufficient HDD(IDE disk) space.3. Solaris dumps i had downloaded from Sun Microsystem's site which are in ISO format.
Now, here are the error details during Solaris installation:
Installation(with default settings) goes through from the first ISO image & then the instance ask's for a reboot. Then is when i recieve the following errors -
1. Bad PBR Sigor2. Panic: Unexpected trap in boot loader. Press any key to reboot
Even after reboot the above errors keep following. Checked with few online forums which advices to use SCSI drives for Solaris(in the VM creation) & check 'Connected' option for CD/DVD-ROM with unchecked 'Connect at power on' during reboot after installation completes from the first ISO image. Even with these options, the same errors keep popping.
Expecting a help/suggestions from all you folks to help me get rid of this problem. The sooner the better. :)
Thanks,Souvik MukherjeeNew York City.

I would like to test some scripting on a Solaris machine. Is there a VMWare virtual machine with Solaris that I can download and use directly?

No, not offically but you are able to download an Oracle Virtualbox image of Solaris 11.1 (for x86) here.
You don't have to install VirtualBox, you can download the portable version here. Q indivi philharmonique rar.

Install Solaris 10 Vmware Server
Inside Virtualbox you can convert the VirtualBox Image to a VMWare Image. (or run it)
The official page for Oracle Solaris 11 VM Downloads is here. You need to accept the OTN License and can then download an 'Oracle Solaris 11.1 VM for Oracle VM VirtualBox'.
